Amritsar is located in the Indian state of Punjab in the extreme northeast region of India. Amritsar is the home of the Golden Temple, the hub of the Sikh religion. The Sikh religion has caused some tension between Hindus and Sikhs and this tension has erupted into violence from time to time.

July to September is the monsoon season in Amritsar. Several inches of rain fall each month during this time. Temperatures in the summer time are hot, sometimes exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter temperatures usually stay between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Recently developers have begun constructing resorts and luxury apartments to attract foreign visitors. Radissons and Holiday Inns have been constructed, as well as a new Convention Center. City officials are hoping that this will attract businessmen and tourists from other parts of India as well as other countries.

By far the biggest attraction in the city is the Golden Temple. As the home of the Sikh religion, the temple attracts Sikhs from all over the world. It also attracts tourists and visitors from other parts of India and internationally. The artwork and architecture of the Golden Temple is some of the most elaborate and beautiful anywhere in India.

Other popular tourist spots in the city are the Majaraja, and the Kothe de Mela. The city is serviced by Raja Sansi International Airport, which offers domestic flights to Delhi and other Indian cities and also to several international destinations. The Grand Trunk Road runs through Amritsar and connects the city to many of the nations other important cities.
