 A Traveler's Guide to London

London is the largest city in Europe, by population. It is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, and the history of the city goes back almost two millenniums. It is one of the world's largest financial centers along with New York City.

The weather in London is very mild year round. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit and winter temperatures rarely dip below freezing. Even though much of the time the city is overcast, London receives less rain than many other major cities of the world.

Because the history of London goes back many centuries, there are many historical landmarks to see in London. Two of the most popular ones are located right on the Thames River. They are Parliament and Big Ben. The Parliament building houses England's ruling body, and Big Ben is the large clock tower that is attached to the Parliament building. Directly across from Parliament is the London Eye, a large Ferris wheel that offers a bird's eye view of the city.

Buckingham Palace is another popular tourist attraction. For centuries, Buckingham Palace has been the home of England's monarchs. The changing of the guard is one of the most impressive and traditional events in Europe.

Sports fans can visit Wembley Stadium, one of the largest and most expensive stadiums in the world. Soccer, rugby, and cricket are favorite sports of the locals.

There are many cultural locations in London, such as museums and statues. Some of the most popular are the British Museum, the National Gallery, and Trafalgar Square.

Heathrow International Airport services London and is the busiest airport in the world by volume. There are several other airports in the city, but Heathrow is by far the largest and busiest. For travel within the city, London has one of Europe's largest bus networks. There are over 8,000 busses, including London's legendary double decker busses that carry locals and tourists alike all around the city.
