Ask a local. They are usually a great source of information, so ask around. They can give you some of the best information about an eating place. Beware of some, such as hotel desk clerks and cab drivers, who receive commissions for referring customers. Ask questions and look around before you choose.

In any tourist area, casual is always appropriate. Only in the more expensive restaurants should you be concerned about  a "dress code". The trend has been for restaurants to become more casual. If you have doubts, it is worth a phone call. Restaurants located in downtown or business areas or in private clubs probably have a more formal dress code.
