Remember to pay any bills that will be due before you return.

Pick up and walk around with your packed suitcases to see how comfortable you are with the weight.

Make sure any houseplants are out of direct sunlight.  Water them thoroughly and wrap the pots with foil or plastic.  Most plants can live without more water for one or two weeks.

Empty the refrigerator of anything that might spoil, melt or leak.

Call and cancel or put a hold on your newspaper delivery.

Gas up the car before loading it.  Have the fluid levels and tire pressure checked.  Your tire pressure can affect the ride and gas mileage you get on your trip.

Remember to turn your refrigerator and water heater to their lowest settings.

Don't forget to set automatic light and radio timers.  Make sure that the bulbs will last for your entire trip.
