Hotels are hesitant to give out specifics regarding their security precautions. The information could be used to bypass their security.  If you are concerned about security, check the issues below to help evaluate your choice of hotel.

Is the hotel located in a high crime rate area ?

Is staff on duty 24 hours a day ?

Do they have a full time security staff on site ?

Do they have security cameras on site ?  Where and how many ?

Is the parking area lighted, under camera surveillance, manned and/ or gated ?

Do all room doors have peepholes, secure chains, flip-locks and/or deadbolts ?

Does the hotel have interior hallways, exterior corridors or both ?

How are they secured ?

Does the hotel use electronic card keys or old fashioned metal keys and locks ?

Do they provide "in-room" safes or a main safe for your use ?

Are there any limitations on the safe’s use?

What is their policy if something goes missing from the main safe or your "in room" safe ?

Will they give you a written receipt for any items left in the main safe ?
