Beaumont is a city that is located in the extreme eastern portion of the US state of Texas. It sits in Jefferson County and combines with the cities of Port Arthur and Orange to form the Golden Triangle, a major industrial region on the Texas Gulf Coast. English is the primary spoken and written language in Beaumont, although a large percentage of the population also speaks Spanish.

The land around Beaumont was first settled in 1835 when a few businessmen purchased the land where the city now sits and founded the city. The name Beaumont was given to it by Christopher Bailey, one of the founders. The city was incorporated in 1838 and soon the city became an industrial hub. It’s location on the water made it a natural spot for shipping, and businesses from all over the region brought their goods to the port of Beaumont to ship them all over the states. In addition to shipping, Beaumont became known for its oil fields. Spindletop is located near Beaumont and is the first major oil field in the United States’ history.

The city continued to grow during World War 2 because it was the home of several ship building plants. The area has continued to be a major hub for shipping and ship building.

Beaumont has a humid subtropical climate, which means hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures can reach into the 90's Fahrenheit from time to time but winter temperatures rarely dip below 40. Rainfall occurs year round, but it occurs most heavily during the summer months of June through August. Beaumont is vulnerable to occasional hurricanes because of its location on the Gulf of Mexico. It was damaged severely by hurricanes Rita and Ike.
