Cedar Rapids is a city that is located in the eastern portion of the US state of Iowa. It serves as the seat of government for Linn County and is the second largest city in the state behind the capital city of Des Moines. English is the primary language spoken in Cedar Rapids. The city gets its name from its location near the rapids on the Cedar River.
Cedar Rapids was incorporated in 1849. Soon after its incorporation the city became the home of the Sinclair meatpacking company. Today the city is a major economic hub for the state of Iowa, as well as a hub for arts and culture.

The Paramount Theater hosts regular live stage productions and musical performances. It is home to the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra and the Cedar Rapids Area Theatre Organ Society.

The Cedar Rapids area is home to a substantial Czech and Slovak population. These immigrants came to the area to work for many of the businesses and manufacturers in town. Their culture is preserved in the Czech Village, just south of the Cedar River. The National Czech and Slovak Museum displays memorabilia and artifacts from both Czech and Slovakian culture.

The Cedar Rapids area is served by the Eastern Iowa Airport, formerly the Cedar Rapids Airport. This airport offers connecting flights to larger international airports nearby.
