Because of its location on the ocean, temperatures in Chula Vista are mild year round. Summer temperatures rarely exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit and winter temperatures rarely dip below 50 degrees ahrenheit. Precipitation is scarce, with much of the rainfall occurring in January and February.

Chula Vista is home to the only live theater in San Diego County, the On State Playhouse. The theater puts on live performances of popular shows. The city is also home to the Olympic Training Center that is used to prepare American athletes for the Olympic Games. Knott's Soak City is a water park located in the city as well. The most popular cultural festivals each year include the Starlight Parade, the Chula Vista Rose Festival, and the Lemon Festival, all of which honor the city's agricultural history.
