Lowell was designed and built in the 1820's to be a textile manufacturing city. Lowell has a humid continental climate, which means warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August.

The city of Lowell has a rich history which is reflected in the several museums and galleries in the city. The most popular are the Boott Cotton Mills Museum, the Revolving Museum, the Whistler House Museum of Art, the Western Avenue Studios, and the Brush Art Gallery and Studios.
