Pomona is a city that is located in the southern portion of the state of California. It is the fifth largest city in Los Angeles County and is the home of the Fairplex, southern California's largest fairgrounds.
The city was sparsely populated until 1868 when the first permanent residents arrived and established some citrus groves and farms. The city was named after the Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona. Railroads and water importation made the spot a desirable place to live. Pomona was finally incorporated in 1888.

Today the city is primarily a suburb of Los Angeles, with several education institutions spread throughout it. California State Polytechnic University is located on the former site of W. K. Kellogg's ranch in Pomona. Other schools in the area include Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona College, and DeVry University.

Pomona has a semi-arid climate. It is located far enough inland that the cool ocean breezes rarely reach it. Summer temperatures can be hot, even into the 90's Fahrenheit, and winter temperature are mild, generally staying above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall is scarce, but it comes most often in the months of January through March.

The biggest attraction to Pomona each year is the LA County Fair, which is held at the Fairplex located in the city limits. The fair attracts over a million people each year. The fair has carnival rides, live musical performances, food, activities, and competitions.

The other major attraction in Pomona is the Powerade Winternationals Drag Racing Competition which is held at the NHRA Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

The closest major airport to Pomona is Ontario International Airport. Los Angeles International and Orange County John Wayne Airports are within driving distance.
