A Traveler's Guide to Pueblo

Pueblo is a city that is located in the southern portion of the US state of Colorado. Colorado is located in the western United States in the Rocky Mountain Range. Pueblo is the seat of government for Pueblo County. It sits on the Arkansas River and is approximately one hundred miles south of Denver. English is the primary spoken and written language of Pueblo.

The area was first settled by Europeans in 1842 by George Simpson who moved to the area and constructed the first permanent dwellings that became known as Fort Pueblo. The city didn't experience much growth until 1859 when the Gold Rush of Colorado happened. The city became a bustling town full of businesses and new residents. It was famous for its steel production, which is due in part to the early construction of several steel mills throughout the city.

Pueblo has a humid continental climate, which means warm summers and cool winters. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August. Because of its location in a mountainous region, snowfall can be heavy at times in Pueblo. Skiing and other snow sports are popular during the winter months.

There are several museums of interest in Pueblo. The two most popular are the Pueblo Historical Aircraft Society and the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, which displays aircraft from the history of the Unites States Air Corps, Navy, Army, Marines, and Air Force. Pueblo was written about by Louis L’Amour in his 1981 novel “Milo Talon”.
