A Traveler's Guide to Rome

Rome is located in the central portion of the US state of New York, which is located in the northeastern portion of the continental United States. New York was one of the original thirteen colonies that declared their independence from Britain, and it has been one of the most important cultural centers in the history of the United States. It is home to Rome, the largest US city by population, as well as some of the largest eastern seaboard ports. The state of New York attracts more tourists than any other New England state. Rome is located in Oneida County and is very important to the local economy. English is the most widely spoken and written language in Rome.

The city of Rome was originally a fort built during the American War for Independence. It was named Fort Stanwix, but later the city's name was changed to Lynchville. The town's name caused some controversy amongst the residents and it was agreed that the name would be changed once more to Rome, after the city of Rome, Italy.

Rome has been called "The City of American History" because so much of it happened there. It is the area that James Fennimore Cooper wrote about in his famous epic The Leather stocking Tales.

Rome has a humid continental climate, which means mild summer temperatures and very cold winter temperatures. Because of its northern location, Rome summer temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter temperatures can dip well below freezing for days on end. Blizzard conditions can occur from time to time in the winter months, and rain falls most often during the months of July and August.

The Rome area is serviced by the Rome Railroad Station which offers connections to area cities that have access to larger nearby airports such as John F. Kennedy International Airport and La Guardia International Airport. These are the largest airports near Rome and they offer daily flights with major domestic carriers to cities in the US, in addition to international carriers with flights to cities in Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
