Guru Travel Tips of Choosing the Best Refuelling Options
CheapFareGuru.com provides most accurate and complete Tips and Tricks for your Health and Safety during your Trip.
What refueling options are there ?
- Probably several. Usually you simply replace the gas on your own. Sometimes you can buy a whole tank up front or pay a refueling charge. The latter is often expensive. Have them explain each option and decide, based on your what seems best for you.
Should I just re-fill the tank myself ?
- Generally that is the cheapest option, but remember that you’ll need a gas station close to the rental return location when turning in the car. This may be a problem since gas stations are sometimes scarce near airports. Safety regulations prohibit them too close to flight paths in case of an aerial accident. Some airports may be located in undesirable areas, where pumping gas can be a safety concern. If you plan to refuel it yourself, check the area to find where gas stations are located. Leave extra time to re-fill the tank, return the car and still make it easily to your flight.
Is it best to buy a whole tank full up front ?
- Find out the per-gallon charge. Usually it is competitive with the station prices and can save time and the hassle of refueling upon return. If the cost is competitive and you’ll be using the whole tank, it can be a good deal. If nothing else, It will be more convenient than re-filling the tank yourself, at nearly the same cost. You'll also avoid possible delays and getting gas on your clothes. Remember, you don’t get a refund on unused gas. If you won’t use much, it will be costly and not your best option.
What happens if I don't have time to re-fill the tank when I said I would ?
- They will charge a per-gallon refueling charge. Although convenient, (no delays looking for gas stations, no gas on your clothes, no missed plane), the per-gallon cost will be much higher than at a local station. A few gallons won’t kill you, but 8 or 10 might ! In that case, it would be cheaper to prepay the whole tank. Listen carefully to the options and decide the best one for your situation.
