Prepairing to Board the Plane
|
|
Can children have any problems with security ?
|
-
Sometimes! Remember that your child is just an extension of you, as far as the security personnel are concerned. Don’t let a child bring any toy guns. Security doesn't need to waste time verifying that they are not real. Even though many are obviously fake, they won’t be allowed through security and you may cause a delay. If they must come along, pack them in your checked luggage.

When can I board the plane with kids ?
|
-
Most airlines pre-board families with children before other passengers. This is not just as a convenience to the kids, but helps to clear the way when other passengers are boarded. If the airline doesn't offer to pre-board you, go to the gate agent and ask. Don't wait until everyone else has boarded, the storage space may be gone.

What can I do to make my child's flight as comfortable as possible ?
|
-
Ask for a blanket and pillow as soon as you board. They go fast, but a flight attendant can help you to find one before they run out.
-
Consider buying your children their own seats. Even though they can sit on your lap free, you’ll all be more comfortable with separate seats. Not sure if it’s worth the money? Try it at home and see how easy it is for both of you for approximately the same amount of time that you'll be on the plane.
-
Ask about children's meals or snacks, if food will be served, at time of booking.
-
See if the flight attendant can feed your child first, before 100 other people.
-
Remember to take bathroom breaks to stretch the legs. Let your child know that you can’t always go to the bathroom when you want to on a plane. Point out that the seat belt sign come on anytime, making it impossible for you to get up. Waiting too long could be very uncomfortable.
