At the time that you make your reservation, make any special requests. They're never guaranteed, but asking up front helps them to choose the car that you want and need.

If you are a non- smoker, request a nonsmoking car.

If your preference is an American car rather than a foreign car, request it.

You may prefer a certain make or brand, such as a Chevy or Ford.  Specify in advance.

Remember that police are reputed to target red or fancy sports cars.  Choose accordingly.

All car rental companies are ready, willing and able to handle special requests.

Children under 40 pounds or under 4 years of age must be in a car seat secured in the rear of the vehicle, in most states.

Most companies have car seats available at an additional cost. You can usually leave yours at home. Even the airline can provide one with advance for air travel.

Booster seats are rarely found at car rental companies and are not always legal in some states. Check first or bring your own.
