Elgin is a city that is located in the northeaster portion of the US state of Illinois. It sits on the Fox River just a few miles northwest of Chicago. It is the eighth largest city in the state and is located in Kane County. English is the primary spoken and written language in Elgin.

The area of Elgin was discovered during the 1832 Indian Wars by General Winfield Scott. Summer temperatures generally stay in the 80's Fahrenheit and winter temperatures can dip below freezing from time to time. Snowfall occurs during the winter months, but rainfall occurs year round, with most of the rain coming in the months of June through August.

There are several venues for the performing and fine arts in Elgin. The Elgin Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest orchestras in all of Illinois and regularly perform concerts for special events. The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra is one of the premiere youth orchestras in the country. The city of Elgin offers several recreation outlets as well, including the Elgin Public Museum, a herd of protected American bison, golf courses, and a petting zoo.
