Halifax is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is also the largest city east of Quebec City. The city is a major part of eastern Canada's economy. There are several festivals that take place during the year as well. The Atlantic Film Festival is one of the largest festivals of its kind in eastern Canada. The GreekFest and Multicultural Festival celebrate the diverse ethnic groups in the city. The Atlantic Jazz Festival features jazz musicians from the Halifax area and from all over the world.

The Halifax area is home to several sports teams, including the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The greater Halifax Municipality is serviced by Halifax Stanfield International Airport, which offers daily flights with major domestic and international carriers to destinations all over Canada, Europe, South America, and Asia. CFB Shearwater is another local air field but services only military aircraft.
