Lincoln is the capital and second largest city in the state of Nebraska. Nebraska is located in the mid western United States. The city of Lincoln is the home to the University of Nebraska. It was originally named Lancaster and following the assassination of President Lincoln the state legislature wanted to rename the state's capital city after the fallen president. Because of it's Confederate ties, many doubted whether or not the city would adopt the new name. However, on March 1, 1867 the town voted to rename itself in honor of President Lincoln. William Jennings Bryan moved to Lincoln soon thereafter and became one of the most well known politicians in America.

Because of its location on the Great Plains, Lincoln has a humid continental climate. The summer months are when most of the precipitation falls and the winters can be very dry at times. Winter temperatures stay in the 30's and 40's Fahrenheit, and summer temperatures stay in the 80's Fahrenheit, generally speaking.

Lincoln has one of the largest park systems of any city in the nation. It has over 100 individual parks within it's city limits. The largest and most visited of these parks are Antelope Park, which contains Lincoln Children's Zoo and the Sunken Gardens, and Pioneers Park Nature Center. All the parks in the city are connected by a trail called the MoPac Trail.

Downtown you can find live musical performances as places such as the Pershing Auditorium, the Zoo Bar, and Lied Center. There are several annual festivals that take place in Lincoln, such as the International Thespian Festival, Lancaster County Fair, and the Star City Parade. On weekends from the months of September through late December the city of Lincoln is transformed into Husker town. The Cornhuskers are the University of Nebraska's mascot. The Nebraska football team competes in the NCAA Division one Big 12 league. Memorial Stadium is where the team competes and it is the largest stadium of its type in the state.
